Somerdale International began its journey into China in 2010, exhibiting at Food & Hotel China in Shanghai. At the time, imported dairy was still an emerging category, and for many visitors it was their first experience of British milk, cream, and cheese. The curiosity and enthusiasm we encountered marked the beginning of an exciting long-term opportunity.
A defining moment came when we encountered London Foods. Its founder, Alexander MacDonald, has a deep understanding of both Western and Chinese markets, and recognised the potential to build a premium imported dairy category. This meeting led to a trusted partnership that continues to underpin our success in China today.
Over the past 15 years, we have developed a resilient and sustainable route to market, introducing a carefully curated range of British and Irish cheeses to meet evolving consumer demand. Our approach combines export expertise with strong in-market insight, ensuring our products resonate with Chinese customers.
Operating in China requires agility and commitment. As regulatory requirements have evolved, we have worked closely with our partners and suppliers to adapt, ensuring compliance while maintaining the highest standards of quality and consistency.
Built on long-term relationships, transparency, and a shared ambition for growth, our China business reflects the very best of British export—bringing premium dairy to new audiences and supporting the continued success of UK food on the global stage.

The Alliance Holdings Group is a UK-based investment platform established to acquire and scale specialist British manufacturing and consumer product businesses through structured partnerships with leading Chinese industrial groups.
Co-founded by David King in 2024 following more than two decades working across UK-China commercial strategy and cross-border collaboration, Alliance focuses on succession-constrained businesses with strong intellectual property, engineering capability or heritage brand positioning. Its approach combines acquisition-led restructuring with integrated UK-China production strategies and coordinated international growth planning.
Alliance’s China engagement centres on building long-term relationships with manufacturing partners seeking overseas expansion opportunities but navigating unfamiliar regulatory environments and ownership structures. The Alliance model provides a practical framework through which these partners can participate in the development of British businesses alongside Alliance while supporting supply-chain resilience and product innovation.
One example is Alliance’s collaboration between British electric fireplace manufacturer Flamerite Fires and Luxstar, a major Chinese fireplace technology and manufacturing group. This partnership stabilised supply continuity during a challenging period and created a platform for future international growth while maintaining the value of a recognised British manufacturing brand.
Alliance is now applying this repeatable acquisition-led collaboration structure across various sectors including children’s furniture, sailing boats and several heritage consumer brand opportunities.

BioCorteX is a Draper-Sofinnova backed tech bio company whose mission is to transform drug development by unlocking the biological relationship between pharmaceuticals and bacteria. Our proprietary platform, Carbon Mirror™, is a foundational biological emulator that maps drug-bacteria interactions with mechanistic precision, delivering transparent, auditable in-silico bridge trials across global regions. Our tagline captures our purpose: Right Drug. First Time. For All.
The pharmaceutical industry currently faces a 4% clinical trial success rate and $234 billion in annual losses, losses that are compounding in line with Eroom's law. Our core insight is that all pharmaceuticals interact with bacteria, and those bacteria vary systematically across populations and geographies. Nowhere is this more consequential than in the transfer of oncology assets from China to global markets.
China has become the world's leading source of oncology innovation, accounting for 32% of out-licensing deal value at $68 billion in H1 2025, and holding the world's leading pipeline across antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), bispecifics, and small molecules. Yet in 83% of deals from Asia to the US, clinical outcomes fail to replicate. BioCorteX was founded to solve precisely this problem.
Our China engagement spans active commercial partnerships with Chinese pharmaceutical developers seeking to advance assets into global markets. We have signed deals with Chinese Biotechs and Asia-Pacific counterparts. BioCorteX is uniquely positioned at the intersection of Chinese pharmaceutical innovation and global clinical success.

Waitrose first launched onto Tmall 10 years ago with a range of ambient and non-food products, championing British credentials. A temporary exit for three years driven by the demise of our distributor, we relaunched back into the Chinese market in 2024.
Our go to market strategy once again used Digital Flagships on digital platforms TMALL, JD and Social E-Commerce sites Red (Xiaohongshu) and Douyin. Key partnerships drove our market entry, and this remains a core element of our success. Our networks include the CBBC, Industry Experts, DBT and our supportive distributor, Intersonikon. Recent projects with multi cultural agency Variety Plus to accelerate our brand reach and relevance through some innovative campaigns and collaborations.
Our approach is successful because we focus on what Chinese customers have perceived Waitrose as - a British, premium, quality brand that appeals to Food Lovers and Health Seekers and not compromised our brand governance in delivery of that. Today we enjoy a strong following of customers who love our brand and our products. Our range heroes include biscuits, tea, coffee, preserves, cereals and chocolate and wine.
We are very proud of our British-ness and know that Chinese consumers are big fans of British heritage which has been a significant part of our success.

University of St Andrews, Newcastle University, University of Warwick, University of Exeter, and Durham University
Our flagship initiative Return to China Career Fairs, represents a step change in how UK higher education supports international graduate employability. By creating a cross-institutional, employer-led ecosystem, we have moved beyond traditional, campus-based careers provision to deliver direct, scalable and impactful outcomes for students seeking opportunities in China.
At the core of our approach is a unique collaboration between five UK universities, spanning both England and Scotland. This partnership enables us to achieve economies of scale, significantly expand employer engagement, and offer students access to a far broader and more diverse range of opportunities than any single institution could provide independently. Notably, we are the only UK university partnership that independently funds careers fairs in China, and the only one supporting Chinese students across both English and Scottish institutions through a unified model.
Our initiative demonstrates both innovation and sustained commitment. Now entering its third consecutive year, the programme combines online and in person careers fairs held in tier one cities (previously in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen), connecting over 2,000 students and graduates each year with more than 120 leading Chinese employers across finance, consulting, technology, internet, manufacturing, healthcare, FMCG, and other sectors. These include major organisations such as the Big Four (PwC, KPMG, EY, Deloitte), HSBC, Citi, Huawei, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent, ByteDance, Geely, JLR, Johnson & Johnson, WuXi Biologics, Mars and P&G.
Crucially, the initiative operates on a completely free-of-charge basis for both students and employers, removing financial barriers and ensuring equitable access to high-quality opportunities. What differentiates our model is its employer-led design and continuous innovation. All participating employers are directly sourced through our internal networks, enabling stronger alignment between recruiter expectations and student aspirations, while also allowing us to track outcomes with greater precision. We have evolved the traditional careers fair into a multi-stage employability programme, incorporating pre-event workshops, labour market insights, and ongoing digital engagement. This ensures students are not only attending events but are fully prepared to engage meaningfully and competitively.
Accessibility is a key strength. Through hybrid delivery and dedicated online engagement channels, we support participation regardless of location, significantly increasing reach among international cohorts. Our tailored pre- and post-event support, including employer-informed workshops and continuous communication platforms, helps students build confidence, understand market trends, and navigate recruitment processes effectively.
The impact of the initiative is evidenced through strong stakeholder feedback. One student noted that the programme provided “a rare opportunity to submit CVs directly to employers and gain real insight into the job market,” while another highlighted the value of “engaging directly with HR representatives and connecting with peers across universities.” Employers similarly praised both the quality of candidates and the professionalism of delivery, with one reporting receiving “30 to 40 strong CVs” and progressing candidates directly to interview. By combining direct investment, cross-institutional collaboration, and an employer-driven approach, we are not only supporting employability - we are actively building the infrastructure that connects global talent to opportunity.

AMBA (The Association of MBAs) was founded in London in 1967. In its first 25 years, it served as THE global "pre-LinkedIn" platform for MBA alumni. In the 1980s AMBA developed accreditation standards for business schools (universities) with MBA/EMBA programmes. AMBA is now primarily known as a standard-setting body for postgraduate management education, graduate employability and alumni relations.
AMBA & BGA currently accredits 71 leading universities (with their business schools) in China, including Hong Kong and Macau: 43 schools have AMBA and 28 have BGA accreditation.
AMBA was the first international business school accreditation to enter China, by accrediting Zhejiang University in 2006 and Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2008. The US accreditation AACSB and European accreditation EQUIS followed AMBA into China a couple of years later.
Over 20 years, AMBA has accredited 43 leading universities across China (including 2 in Hong Kong and 1 in Macau).
In 2019 AMBA created a second accreditation system: Business Graduates Association (BGA), which focuses on sustainability, impact and employability at bachelor, masters and doctoral level. With this the official name of the organisation was changed to AMBA & BGA.
So far 40 business schools in China have achieved BGA accreditation, including 28 BGA-solus accredited and 12 AMBA-accredited with an add-on BGA accreditation.
In addition to the reaccreditation peer-review visits that AMBA/BGA panels conduct every 3-5 years at each accredited institution, AMBA has organised in China over 30 capacity-building workshops for Chinese business school leaders/ faculty/ staff in the period 2019-2026.

The University of Birmingham (UoB) and the University of Glasgow (UoG) are both globally leading, top 100 universities with a long-standing commitment to international collaboration and student success. Together, we educate over 80,000 students from more than 150 countries and are members of the UK’s Russell Group, with a shared focus on delivering global impact through research, education and partnership.
China has been a strategically important partner for both institutions for many years. Collectively, we have a combined alumni community of over 60,000 graduates in China, with established networks across major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Our engagement has historically focused on student recruitment, academic collaboration and alumni relations, supported by strong links with industry and government partners.
We recognise the increasing importance of supporting Chinese international students beyond graduation, particularly as many return to a highly competitive domestic labour market. While both institutions had established employability provision, operating independently limited our ability to engage at scale with employers and provide strong in-country support. By combining our expertise, alumni networks and employer connections, we identified a clear opportunity to create a more coordinated and impactful approach to supporting graduate outcomes.
In 2025, UoB and UoG formed a strategic partnership to enhance employability support for students and alumni from China. This has led to the development of an innovative, in-country employability model, combining the strengths of both institutions with local expertise to better support graduates transitioning from UK education into professional careers in China.

Lingtan Gongchang (Beijing) Design Consultancy Co., Ltd. is a Beijing-based design consultancy focused on zero-carbon architecture, modular building systems and climate-responsive design. Founded in 2018, the company was established to translate advanced low-carbon design thinking into practical solutions for the Chinese market, with an emphasis on buildings and public spaces that are efficient, adaptable and easier for the public to understand and use.
Since its inception, Lingtan Gongchang has worked with Zedfactory Asia Pacific Ltd, the UK practice linked to the wider ZEDfactory approach pioneered through BedZED and a long track record of zero-carbon architectural experimentation. The partnership began with low-carbon, energy-efficient movable architecture developed around the Sixth Asian Beach Games programme, and has since evolved into a broader China-focused collaboration spanning design consultancy, prototype development, sustainability-led public engagement and destination-based cultural projects.

For Lingtan Gongchang, working in China has never meant simply importing foreign concepts. It has meant building a long-term bridge between British design expertise and Chinese places, producing locally rooted, publicly accessible projects that connect sustainability, culture and community.
